My book name is the true story of Hansel and Gretel a novel of war and survival. At first name is connected to fairytale Hansel and Gretel. Almost everyone know this fairytaile so it grabs our attention. For example, two kids are lost in to the woods, they meet withch. And all book is about surving in war period.
My book is named "Into the wild". It is a biography of a man who traveled to Alaskan nature. His name is Christopher McCandless. He left all of his money, all of his belongings and just wanted to experience , as he said - the real life. The title itself shows us the main theme of the story. Going to the wild, forgetting all the troubles and living a life with no worries. Every reader that reads the title probably thinks: - Oh, into the wild... It must be an interesting story about surviving. It should be very intriguing. Basically it shows us what is the book about.
"The ABC Murders" is a title Agatha Christie chose on purpose. This title strongly relates to the author's story. The murders in the story are committed in the alphabetical order, which explains the letters ABC in the book's title. Christie tries to relate her titles to the story. She wants her titles to be suggestive and breath-taking.
„Left behind“ is a title. I think authors chosen this title because the main character, Rayford, will search his family and somehow he will find out the apocalypse secret. Darius, adv B
The title of the book that I read is "One day of the life of Ivan Denisovich" and there is no mystery about it. The whole book speaks about a day of the main character that is in a Gulag during the Second World War. He spent there 3656 days and the author is trying to describe us just one of them, one single day of a 10 years nightmare.
The name of my book is "The Death Relic". I haven't read that much that I could understand why the book is called like this. Though whole story has always something to do with archeology, history and the true story of the Maya. Ohh, I just remembered that in the very beginning of the book they were talking about some medallion! Or, if it's not what the book is about, then I could guess that somewhere in the end of the book they are going to find it, that is something really awesome and important and that everybody wants to have.
"In nineteen minutes, you can order a pizza and get it delivered. You can read a story to a child or have your oil changed. You can walk a mile. You can sew a hem. In nineteen minutes, you can stop the world, or you can just jump off it. In nineteen minutes, you can get revenge. "
The book is all about the value of words, actions, time, love and is about consequences. The guy shoot 30 people in 19 minutes because of indignity and pression he suffers... So who can consider you even will arrive at home tonight?..
I am reading the “Northanger Abbey” by Jane Austin. Catherine Morland has an opportunity to stay with the Allen family in Bath and she hopes to find a lot of mysterious adventures like she has been reading in her favorite gothic books. She always sees dreams at night where she is a heroine of these novels. In Bath she meets Henry Tilney and his family and they offer her to come to the Northanger Abbey. Here her adventures start. So, I think that the title of the book is directly related with the plot. The most important events in Catherine’s life will happen in Northanger Abbey - an ancient patrimony full of mystery things. In this Abbey she starts new adult life with their prejudices, problems and social inequality.
i am reading a book called "The true story of Hansel and Gretel".A title tells us exactly what you will get from this book! Hansel and Gretel is a fairy tale, this is that fairy tale rewritten for adults. I had no idea it would be so very dark. Shouldn't we be truly scared? Shouldn't we be shocked? Onishchenko Demid Adv C

Each author choose the title of his book with great caution. Choice of name depends on many factors. The main task of the title is to draw a reader’s attention. So, writer should think out the most attractive, the most cryptic and not superficial capitulary. But scientific books don’t always lend themselves to this rule. Science is attractive at all times. This literature don’t need the title, which you will be able to explain only after finishing all the book or its third part. Nonfiction books attract only for theirs availability and intelligibility. There’re a great number of scientific papers in the world, but considerable prominence have only several hundreds of them. Other books maybe are even more instructive but because of the complicated names few people read them. The name of my book is “A brief history of time”. This title is quite logical and uncomplicated. Throughout the whole book writer is trying to find answers to such questions: “Was there the beginning of time? Will there be an end? Is the universe infinite? Or does it have boundaries?” With this fundamental questions in mind, author reviews the great theories of the cosmos. He explained Galileo’s and Newton’s discoveries. Hawking helps us to take a new look of Einstein’s general theory of relativity and then moves on to the other great theories of our century. Over several chapters he explains us how our views of the nature of time have changed over the years. Being a physicist, Stephen Hawking call a things by their proper names. His book is scientific therefore it’s no need to name it intricately. Though the title is simple, it still remains interesting. Time as a physical concept is very catching to study. So this title doesn’t prevent the spread of this book, it only helps.
The title of my book is ‘Keeping Faith’ and as for me it connects with the content of the book. Name of the main character is Faith and she starts believe in God. It is strange for her family because they are a Jews. But Faith has a visions of God and she is reading a Bible, so for me she wants to sustain faith in God. According to me, author especially chooses the title and the name of the character in order to emphasize girl’s faith in God and give to understand that if we believe in God so much we can survive any adversity.
As everyone knows, the title of the book is never accidental. Always refer in some way to the book. "My sister’s keeper" refers to the main character of the novel written by Jodi Picoult. Anna is a girl who, from the moment of conception, was intended to help older sister, Kate, fight leukaemia. From the beginning, she is a supplement to her sister somehow. No one had ever asked her for permission. She never questioned this role, however, every teenager when he is growing up often ask himself the question "who exactly am I?". Anna needs to answer the question if she should follow her heart or let guide her by others?
Sometimes truth hurts and it's better to keep it in your mind than tell it to anyone. It fears us, because it's easier to live in imaginary world. We all know the fairy-tale about HnG, and this book is based on it, but actions take place during the WW2. Horrible, nasty, unbelievable facts are described. it's very far from the fairy-tale, it's an unexpected truth.
"The Stranger" by Albert Camus. The novel was written in French and it's originally called "L'etranger" what means "outsider" or "alien"."Outsider" or "The stranger" in this story is Meursault himself. He is strange to readers because he is different, Meursault behave in the way that for most of us is unacceptable . First of all he didn't cry during his mother's funeral.Secondly he killed an Arab man and he can' even explain why he did so serious crime. While being in court a main character did not even try to defend himself or protect his future. He even did not turn to God at the last minute when the most and even his mother did as the last chance. I believe that a title "Lord of the Flies" could be a reference to the name of Satan or Beelzebub because it is obvious that the Lord of the Flies in the novel symbolizes the devil, or the evil in every human being. I think, the title "Lord of the Flies" is just a metaphoric way of explaining the plot in a short text.
I am reading "One, two, buckle my shoe" by Agatha Christie. The title is the same as a well-known children's nursery rhyme. I haven't read whole book, so I can't say why she named the book like this. I am reading "True believer" by Nicholas Sparks. This book's main character Jeremy doesn't believe in ghosts and also doesn't believe in power of love. But when he is invited to investigate the lights that people see above the cemetery he becomes a different person. He meets Lexie and falls in love with her. The title of my book is "Gone With The Wind" and it is a reference to the fact that the main character Scarlett O'Hara loses virtually everything during the Civil War. She was a very privilleged lady of a filthy rich family, but all the things she used to take for granted in the good old days - including fancy clothing, a huge choice of food, financial security and childhood friends - had all gone so quickly, as if swept away by the wind... Wolf of the Plains is a work of historical fiction, based on the early life of Genghis Khan. In the title of this book author mention name of the tribe,, Wolfs ‘‘ were Genghis Khan grow up. My book is called the "Lost city", as referring to a long lost city, witch is currently under a lake in the Alps. The title is meant to intrigue the reader, and it states, that the book contains never before heard or seen secrets and aspects about a lost city. This was probably the reason why I choose this book based on it's title. Džiugas, Adv. A
The title of the book - "Jane Eyre". I guess the author called it like this because everything that goes in a story is about the main character Jane Eyre. When you first grab this book, the title isn't so attractive, you can't think of the deep meaning. Despite that, all the events and problems happens for her, Jane Eyre grows in all possible ways and the title of the book shows that. The name of the girl (Jane) is not unique, it is usual, but "Eyre" sounds different, it is like a new breath from air. It explains the personality of this girl. Milda Navickaite adv c

I'm currently reading ,, The True Story of Hansel and Gretel". Everyone knows the fairytale about Hansel and Gretel. Well, this novel is really far from that, but some parts of the book are similar. One of them is the place- forest. Second one is the witch- Magda (she is not actually a witch, but all the people living in the village call her like that). The third one is that these two kids in the novel are left by their father and stepmother. And the last one is the oven. Once Magda's house was burning, these kids were hiding in the oven, to protect themselves from fire, how smart is that, huh?
My book is called "Tess of the d'Ubervilles" by t.Hardy. It's name reffers to the main character of the book because all the plot is about the girl, named Tess, life.
The novel I chose for the reading class is called "Into the Wild". The title is rather simple and reflects the main character's attitude to the way of lfe he acquired for the last couple of months of his life. He wanted to immerse into unspoiled nature, to get away from the inequities of modern life, to come closer to the primary independent lifestyle. Therefore he took off and vanished into the wilderness of Alaskan bush. That is most likely why the author, who traced down the path of this young adventurer, gave the book this particular name.
Steinbeck originally titled it “Something That Happened”, however he changed the title after reading Robert Burns' poem called “To a mouse”. It is about a mouse which carefully builds a winter nest in a wheat field, but it was destroyed by a ploughman: "...The best laid schemes of mice and men Often go wrong And leave us nothing but grief and pain,Instead of promised joy" The mouse dreamed of a safe, warm winter and faced with the cruel reality of cold, loneliness and collapsed dream. Lennie and George are migrant farm workers who dream of having their own home and land, but this dream is wrecked like the mouse’s nest in the Robert Burns’ poem. Lennie loves mice, he pets them too hard and then they die. His fate in the book reflects with the fate of the mice. He takes care of them and after kills accidently. Similarly, George takes care of Lennie, and he forced to kill him. Both mice and men are affected by environmental reality and cruelty of the humanity.
I think the writer choose the joy luck club as a title of the book because it's not only a club where womans play mah jong for luck but that club reminds her mother and mysterious Chinese culture which she didn't really understand because her mother immigrates in the US before Amy was born. In the dedication she writes "To my mother and the memory of her mother. You asked me once what i would remember. This, and much more." Monika K. Adv C

The pact is a secret agreement between two people. The title relates to the story, because the two main characters have a secret understanding, which leads to the tragedy. "The true story of Hansel and Gretel" is based on the fairytale. Characters which are presented in the book are inspired by those from the nursery story. The whole story reminds me of the fairytale, however it's more tragic and breathtaking. In my opinion thanks to this book I will spend some time thinking about other possible stories of Hansel and Gretel.
The Cider House Rules were a list of rules posted in building where the workers lived, but they were ignored. Meaning of the title is that the doctor of the orphanage treats the "rules" of society the same way the workers treat the cider house rules by ignoring them.
" The diamond as big as a Ritz" is title. So, firstly, it seems like usual metaphor title because the diamonds of such this size don' t exist in world. I think that Lauren Murphy entitled her book "The truth story of Hazel and Gretel" to surprise readers. Most of the people already knew the Brothers Grimm' fairytale... My book is called A Portrait of a Young Man. Since it is about a young boy, Stephen Dedalus, it is no wonder why the book is called like this. I read the book "What is the what" by Dave Eggers. I haven't read enough pages to understand why the bok has this title, but I have some ideas. Maybe the author wants to explain something, wants to show what we have never seen, or, maybe, he wants to tell about his life, about how he explored this life and understood what is the what. Maybe he wants to say that not always things that are seem to be good not so good and the bad things are bad. I suppose that when I finish this book I will understand all what the author wants to say. Alina. Advanced A.
"The Lord of the Rings" In my opinion, this title is a reference to backstory, about Sauron and history of creating One Ring. He might be "Lord of the Rings", because One Ring was more powerful than other rings, which were made by the elves of Erigion.
My book is "perks of being a wallflower". I suppose that the title really reflects the story of this book. The main character is Charlie, the boy, who isn't popular in the school, at the beginning, he has no friends and the whole book is a description of his life. My book is "Full Dark, No Stars" by Stephen King. This book contains of 6 stories and I can't relate the title with them, so i just pick up a question. What feelings did you have as you read the story? Well, at first I was confused because the first story starts with words 'I killed my wife'. And I really was confused because I had no idea what author is going to write about in this story if he already said who killed who. But now everything is very interesting, even thought a few times I felt disgust, because author tells every detail how the man killed his wife. But I don't mind that as long as the story itself is very fascinating. Airida, Adv.A
"The lovely bones" is a title of my book. It is kind of mysterious and clear name for the book at the same time. I think that it is easy for reader to understand that the story is about death and searching for main characters's bones. Why are they the lovely bones? I guess that author chose this title, because he wanted to show that everyone: family, friends, teachers and others loved Sussie and it was very hard for them to conciliate with her death. I think that this title grabs reader's attention and makes him want to read this book.
"Till we have faces" is a title of book, which I am reading. It is a novel based on a myth of Cupid and Psyche from antiquity time period. The narrator is a woman who blames rhe gods for her life. She takes us back in time to her childhood and tells us a story. I don't really know how this title refers to the book, but I hope that in a conclusion will be clarified.
Clive Cussler, the author of Ghost Ship, takes a long time to let the reader know why he chooses these words for his title. In fact, the reader almost forgets about the title as the mysterious actions take place early in the story about the SS Waratah disappearing in 1909. This disappearance remain's dormant in the reader's mind until more than half way through the novel when the ship reappears floating in the middle of the Indian Ocean as an actual "ghost ship," one that has no inhabitants except ghost clues such as sediment samples, specific insects and mummified bodies with bullet holes. These "ghosts" tell the reader about the boat's disappearance and reappearance while edging closer to the story's climax. Therefore as in all of his novels, Cussler connects the title to his novel in dramatic fashion.
I am reading 'Crooked House' by Agatha Christie. This book is about one man's death. Someone switches his insulin injection for eserine. Man, which name is Charles, wants to marry a girl - Sophia. Sophia is Aristide's (a man who is killed) granddaughter. She declines Charle's offer until everything clarifies. Charles wants to marry her as soon as possible and he undertakes to find a murderer. I am reading " Murder in Foggy Bottom" by Margaret Truman. It's a detective story situated in the present day in the USA. Every single chapter reveals different stories, which in conclusion help to solve a mystery of the murder.
George Orwell, the author of ''Animal farm'', there’s a farm, there are some animal in it, sounds reasonable to me, why this title. But that’s not all. The farm starts off as "Manor Farm," switches to "Animal Farm," and then makes a spectacular return to Manor Farm. So, what's in a name? "Animal Farm" becomes a symbol for the animals' idealistic dreams. So you can guess what it means when the name goes away.
Greta...you have some good insights [thought] here. Here are some corrections to your sentences...George Orwell, the author of ''Animal farm'', [is about a farm.] [There] there are some animal [animals] in it,[ . ] [It]sounds reasonable to me, [but] why this title.
Margaret Mitchell is the author of Gone with the Wind. It is a novel where events occur in the southern states of USA in the 1860s, during and after Civil War there. The main heroine of this novel is Scarlett O'Hara. She us rebellious, spontaneous, ambitious and, maybe, a little bit egocentric person. A reader can suppose that these Scarlett's qualities make her distinctive from others (another heroes of Gone with the Wind), and her character and her style of life are connected with the title of this novel. Therefore, Scarlett is not like everyone in this book; she likes this life; she is never upset and makes everything for happiness of others if she has any possibilities for it. Scarlett is alive. Because of it she has "gone with the wind". The title is a description of this heroine and means that Scarlett is not like others. Alina Pytaylo. Advanced C.
Alina...I like how you connected the title with the character. "Gone with the wind" is an expression about how fast something, in this case Scarlett, disappears. This part of your writing is awkward-- she is never upset and makes everything for happiness of others if she has any possibilities for it.--should read--and makes everyone as happy as possible...nice overall job expressing your opinion.
The title of C.S. Lewis book „Till We Have Faces” is ambiguous. The reader cannot understand it without deep thoughts about it. When people see faces, they can know more about a person, but real „face“ is not just your appearance. It includes your actions and your character. So till we have faces means till humans are visible, till they have different characters and different opinions, till they have faith and are fighting for their beliefs.
The book that I am reading right now is "The True Story of Hansel and Gretel" by the author Louise Murphy. There really isn't anything much to tell about the book, except that is the classic widely known fairy-tale written in a realistic manner and set in World War II. The only way to find out more about the book is to pick it up, starting to read it, and wait for the story to hook you in. Then it becomes a real page-turner!

He always gets in some huge adventuruos which are really dangeruos. The Azkaban is the prison where the most dangerous criminals are sent. I think that this story will be about some prisoner from Azkaban which will try to kill Harry Potter and will get him into new adventures

Book that I'm reading is by Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby. This books main charakter is Nick and he is telling a part of his life when he met Jay Gatsby. And how Nick said "Only Gatsby, the man who gives his name to this book, was exempt from my reaction - Gatsby, who represented everything for which I have an unaffected scorn." This sentence obviously explains why F. S. Fitzgerald decided to name his book like that.

You are on the right track with your thoughts...the What is an unusual way to say what. So the article "the" will eventually give your the idea later in the story. The title of Ruta Sepetys book ''Between Shades of Gray’’ is very mysterious and has nothing to do with ''50 Shades of Gray’’ by E. L. James as most people think of at first. The color gray associates with hard times, depression. And this book is about one of the darkest periods in Europe’s history - World War II. So the reader can infer that the shades of gray mean how frustrating the life in concentration camp can be. Maybe some of the bad times here aren’t as bad as the others can be... The more direct way that the reader could understand the title is that life is very monotonic there in Siberia and that the winters are long here and summers only last for two - three weeks, so really there isn’t any colour in the nature but gray. I think there could be many meanings of the book title, however I would be happy to find out the real one by the end of it. Karolina C. Adv. C

I strongly believe that Redirect by Timothy D. Wilson was entitled pretty straightforward. It does not take a long time to find out the meaning of the title since I am reading a non-fiction book – title stands for a new psychological technique of redirecting thoughts. Moreover, it is claimed that the technique may result in living a happier life and works for everyone. However, It takes a while to get the final explanation of the technique – how actually your thoughts should be redirected from painful or traumatic experiences in order to think more positive and achieve a happier life. Even though I’ve already read more than a quarter of the book, the author doesn’t reveal the technique yet and depreciates other psychological outlooks, what actually makes me wonder if the technique really works.
I like the questions you pose in your writing here. If the author reveals his technique early in the book, would anyone finish it? Your writing is clear and concise. I would add an article before title here --"It does not take a long time to find out the meaning of the title since I am reading a non-fiction book – title stands for a new psychological technique of redirecting thoughts."

I'm reading "The Adventures And Memoirs Of Sherlock Holmes" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The connection between the title and the story might seem obvious to the reader, but there is a bit more to it than meets the eye. Why "The Adventures And Memoirs Of Sherlock Holmes"? Why not simply "The Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes"? Because, according to the story, dr. Watson wrote the books about Holmes. Not book but books. There are two books: "The Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes" and "The Memoirs Of Sherlock Holmes". The reader might assume, that Watson, in the story, published "The Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes" first and then "The Memoirs Of Sherlock Holmes". Readers might ask: "Why memoirs? Why two books?". The memoirs thing has everything to do with the ending of the book. Something happens to make the 2nd book into "The Memoirs". The reader may ask: "What happens?". That's up to You to find out.

I'm reading the book called "Atlantis Found" by Clive Cussler. The novel begins with a story of a man named Marquez who was living in a small town, surrounded by mountains. There was also a abounded mine near the town. Marquez bought an area in this mine. He was visiting it every day collecting small red gemstones which brought him money. "But how is the title connected to the content?" you might ask. Well, one day, Marquez was heading down the mine as always and suddenly spotted a tunnel he has never seen before. He followed the passage and stumbled upon a room with a obsidian skull and writings on walls. A month later a group of scientist discovered, that it is ancient chamber that is somehow connected to a lost city. As the story continues, characters come closer in finding the lost continent of Atlantis.
The true story of Hansel and Gretel by Louise Murphy is book that shows how title relates with the story immediately. Hansel and Gretel is a fairytale about two children that got lost in the wood so the reader, from the very beginning, knows about main place where actions take place. Words “the true story“ shows that this is not traditional fairytale. So the title tells a little bit about characters and shows that we should wait for something unexpected.

I am reading the book titled "1984" by George Orwell. 1984 is the year of described events, but the book was published in 1949, so it was the road to the future for the author's сontemporaries. Today we can see and feel fears that society was covered by back in a days and compare them with actual events. In a book it says that the main character doesn't even no for sure if it is an accurate year he live in, so it makes this number more symbolic. Author wanted to show the fearful world of tomorrow, and he was free to take any year far long enough to make some important events to happen.
ReplyDeleteThe name of my book is “A brief history of time”.

He wanted to immerse into unspoiled nature, to get away from the inequities of modern life, to come closer to the primary independent lifestyle. "Of mice and men" by J. Steinbeck.
ReplyDeleteSteinbeck originally titled it “Something That Happened”, however he changed the title after reading Robert Burns' poem called “To a mouse”. It is about a mouse which carefully builds a winter nest in a wheat field, but it was destroyed by a ploughman:
"...The best laid schemes of mice and men Often go wrong And leave us nothing but grief and pain,Instead of promised joy"
The mouse dreamed of a safe, warm winter and faced with the cruel reality of cold, loneliness and collapsed dream.

DeleteThe true story of Hansel and Gretel by Louise Murphy is book that shows how title relates with the story immediately. Hansel and Gretel is a fairytale about two children that got lost in the wood so the reader, from the very beginning, knows about main place where actions take place. Words “the true story“ shows that this is not traditional fairytale. So the title tells a little bit about characters and shows that we should wait for something unexpected.
